Plot
This movie had me on the edge of my seat throughout. So fast-paced, but in the best way possible. The acting was phenomenal — s/o to Austin Abrams bc he killed it. I love that franticness and realness in horror characters, because a lot of times you just don't get that. Loved how the movie was basically a first-person perspective the entire time; really felt like a video game. Also, shit was lowkey funny and I always enjoy that.
Cinematography
Cregger always nails it when it comes to the visuals. The CGI was on point. The different camera angles and that first-person shooter perspective really made it feel like you were playing the actual game.
Sound
Sound design was perfect — again, not a surprise for a horror movie. Even the switch between the darker and lighter moods did a great job building and releasing tension.
My Take
Cregger has been killing it as a director ever since he stepped into the horror space. The crazy part is each movie he has leveled up: Barbarian to Weapons to now this. I'm not even a horror guy, but I won't skip the next Cregger-directed film. Even though I never played the games, this was a must-watch.
