Plot
Understanding this is a period piece adapted from a book originally written back when royal inbreeding was just a Tuesday, it's hard to diminish the plot too much. All jokes aside, major s/o to Jane Austen for writing stories that have stood the test of time back when they'd practically execute a woman for coughing wrong. The acting was "brilliant" (sorry, had to). Overall the plot was solid, nothing mind-blowing since it functions more as a slice-of-life study and an analysis of sibling bonds.
Cinematography
Shot very well. Period pieces often default to being way too drab and grey for my taste, but this was bright, lush, and vibrant. Great camera framing that centers the characters to pull out the genuine emotional depth.
Sound
Sound design was great. I know I've said this before, but there is truly no better audio cue than horses' hooves galloping. Absolutely love that sound.
My Take
TBH, costume period dramas are usually not my skeeze at all, but this was undeniably good. The one element that genuinely pissed me off was watching how these women were forced to completely rely on men just to survive. I know it's historically accurate, but damn — men have really sucked throughout history. We have to do better, Jesus Christ.
